BOURNEMOUTH - Bulletin No 1
It is a damp mild morning here in Bournemouth for the opening round of the 2010 MSA Gravel Rally Championship, the Rallye Sunseeker. The event got off to an amazing start in Poole last might for the ceremonial start when estimated crowds of up to 4000 people were on hand to witness the cars leave the ramp. This years approach by the organisers to have the event start in Poole certainly seems to have been the correct one, judging by the reaction of those who turned up.
Marcus Dodd said " This is just about as local as you can get for us, my workshops are about 500m from here, and its amazing to see so many people here. It has surprised us with how many are here"
Drivers such as Jonny Milner, Kenny McKinstry, Jonny Greer, Steve Hendy, Alex Allingham, Shelly Taunt were all on hand to have photos taken with fans. Many actually got the opportuniy to sit in a rally car for the first time. Event Director Rick Smith told us " I have to say that I am delighted with the response of the people in Poole, and it does really justify the event being brought to here and the social evening that we had. It really was amazing to see just how many made the effort to come"
Les Harrogate, co driver to Matthew Thorne, and Stage sponsor on Rallye Sunseeker through SCF Hardware said "This is unbelievable to see so many people here, I am really enjoying it, letting people have the photo taken, sitting in the car. The kids are loving the whole thing. Its a cracking way to start an event and would nice to see as many on the stages tomorrow"
